Lyndon Johnson paragraph conclusion
Chicago style format, 5 primary sources argumentative essay

General Guidelines
1. Select a Topic:- You must critically engage one or more topics covered in class from Southern Reconstruction-Recent History
2. Develop and Argument:- Your paper should not merely summarize history; you should synthesize, criticize, and defend important ideas discussed in the textbook, Yawp Online Reader to develop an argument in your own way.
3. Support Your Work:- Choose as many primary documents as you feel that are needed located in your Yawp Online Reader online reader located in Yawp Online Text, also you may use your textbook and lectures, however, make sure that primary documents are from the same time-period in your Yawp Online Reader or textbook. For instance, if you pick to write about the Revolutionary Era only pick those documents that discuss this time-period and only use the questions in this section to write your paper.
4. Question & Respond:- When beginning to write, think of historical questions that should be addressed about your topic in a history class. Here are some examples (Don’t use these but they might provide some guidance): “How did slavery impact the different colonies?” “What impact did the American Revolution have on American identity?” I recommend that you select a historical topic which interests you most. Also bring your historical question to me so I can clear it first.
5. Use Proper Referencing:-I will assume that the combination of general lectures and textbook chapter readings give you an overall background. But, your writing should be supported by examples and supported by documentation from factual information found in the textbook, readings, and the Yawp Online Reader. You must properly reference the works you are citing. You should use at least 3 primary documents from the Yawp Online Reader and outside sources from JSTOR. You may use more, but no less than five (5) resources. Also feel free to talk about the images or media on the Yawp website.

7. Apply Independent Thought: DO NOT use large “direct quotes” or massive block quotes to fill in the space of your paper. Your paper must be composed of your thoughts. The primary and secondary documents, e-reader, and your textbook can support your thought. The goal here is to demonstrate your independent thought and your ability to interpret factual sources and information within the topic.
Essay Components: A Bit About the Five Page Essay: Your essay must include a formal introduction, several supporting paragraphs, and a final-conclusion. Please read more about each of these essay parts below.
o Introduction: In an argumentative essay, the introduction is very important. It gives the reader his/her first impression of an argumentative essay. Start with a short background. Introduce the topic or debated question / issue. Explain why its importance and state your position.
o Claim Supporting Paragraphs: Clearly state the point. Provide the supporting (logical explanation). Restate the argument as a proved thesis in each paragraph.
o Conclusion: The conclusion of an argumentative essay is just as important as the introduction. The conclusion seals the essay and tries to close the issue. Conclusion is the last part of the essay that your reader will experience. Restate (do not repeat) your claim. Briefly recount the arguments. End by showing the importance of your conclusion
o Review the How to Write an Essay on Canvas
Finalizing Your Work: There are some common mistakes that will significantly harm your grade, however, you can avoid those grade lowering mistakes by completing the following.
o Check spelling and grammar. Then, read your paper out-loud. If you stumble in your reading, then you need to fix something in your paper.
o Use Proper Formatting: Ensure that your essay is fully compliant with the required formatting standard mentioned above.
o Organize & Cite: Properly organize, cite, and use references.
o State Your Argument Clearly: Have a clear and properly formatted argument.
