For this discussion you will use musicals to explain and illustrate the American Myth and the counter-myth. Lesson 4 has many musicals from which to choose; there are also many musicals that came after the Lesson 4 era not mentioned if you would like to share. All of these musicals are great to use to illustrate these concepts.

American Myth – 3pts.
Briefly explain what the American Myth is or what you understand from Raymond Knapp’s chapter. Provide the title of a musical (or even a musical number) that illustrates the Myth. Explain through the form, technique or structure (it does not need to be all three) how the American Myth is exemplified in the dance and support your claim with statements from Knapp.
Counter Myth – 3pts.
Briefly explain what the counter-myth is or what you understand from Raymond Knapp’s chapter. Provide the title of a musical (or even a musical number) that illustrates the counter-myth. Explain through the form, technique or structure (it does not need to be all three) how the counter-myth is exemplified in the dance and support your claim with statements from Knapp.

Provide some feedback to another discussion. How is their definition and understanding of the American Myth and counter-myth? Did they leave something out (or not comment on) some part of their statement or example? Did their example include all aspects of the myth or just some aspects? What did you learn about the American Myth and counter-myth by reading their statement and example?
