The Bastille Effect

        This essay is broken up into 3 smaller essays, each essay needs to be at least 2 pages long. I will provide the book and lecture notes from the class needed for this essay in the upload files section. You will also need to watch the movie "Hunger" directed by Steve McQueen, if you cannot get access to the movie I will purchase the movie and provide you with the link. Each 2 page essay will also need a unique title related to the topics discussed. Item 1: Relying on the book, The Bastille Effect (Chapter 4: Sites of Condor), and related to class lectures and slideshows, please discuss two common threads linking each of the four cities ruled under a dictatorship: Buenos Aires, Santiago, Asuncion, Montevideo. Item 2: Relying on the book, The Bastille Effect (Chapter 11: Consecrate and Desecrate), and related to class lectures and slideshows, please offer an original critique of the film Hunger (directed by Steve McQueen) by interpreting the plight of Bobby Sands and the other Irish hunger strikers. In doing so, please incorporate the following concepts: Sanctity of Death, Martyrdom, and Sacrifice. Item 3: Relying on the book, The Bastille Effect (Chapter 10: Exterminate and Denial), and related to class lectures and slideshows, please explore genocide and mass killings in the Southern Cone of Latin America. Also pay close attention to the significance of the fate of indigenous people.
