Facial recognition is not new technology, but its increased use has brought to question a mountain of serious issues. Law enforcement has the option to run face recognition searches through databases that don't contain just criminals, but also law abiding citizens who have a driver’s license or identification cards. The New York City Police Department(NYPD) has access to an estimate of 9,000 cameras in Manhattan alone and with the voluntary use of social media platforms, and video games it obscures the threat to our constitutional rights. Law enforcement might believe they are deterring crime, but at what cost? The technology is spreading like a wild fire across the nation and is showing up in schools and airports. The scope of this technology and its influence on law enforcement is troubling and although facial recognition technology has been a helpful tool for law enforcement, there is no high tech silver bullet to solve crime. The technology has yet to show proof that its use has been able to eradicate or deter crime to the extent that it is necessary. Americans' constitutional rights are under attack and a solution is needed to prevent abuse of the technology, as well as, a solution that includes transparency measures. also please explain a bit more as to why you rejected the 3 Proposed Alternatives.
