The media are often accused of having a significant impact on our attitudes and behaviors. Think of how the press often attributes mass shootings to media violence in music, films, and video games; or how parents worry about their children’s exposure to hypersexualized advertising and television content. In order to more fully examine these claims, this assignment encourages you to take the perspective of a media scholar and find a recent Media Effects study of your choosing — this means that there must be some kind of empirical research conducted by the study (e.g., a survey, experiment, or content analysis).
Once you have chosen the Media Effects study you wish to examine, write a 2 to 3-page paper numbered as follows: 1. Its purpose (what prompted the study?) and reasoning 2. It’s findings 3. The implications on media going forward.
