In my opinion, the greatest risk security experts must prepare for is the proliferation and increasing sophistication of cyber-physical attacks. These attacks bridge the gap between the digital and physical worlds, targeting critical infrastructure (like power grids, water treatment plants, and transportation systems), industrial control systems, and even smart cities. The consequences of such attacks can be catastrophic, leading to widespread disruption, economic collapse, loss of life, and significant societal upheaval. Unlike traditional cyberattacks that might steal data or disrupt services, cyber-physical attacks have the potential to cause tangible, real-world damage and even physical harm. The increasing interconnectedness of our world through the Internet of Things (IoT) and operational technology (OT) makes these systems more vulnerable than ever.
