The importance of sustainability

In far too many businesses today, entrepreneurs build a corporate entity with hard and fast exits strategies --- perhaps articulated with greater clarity than the strategic steps required to attain sustainability. While we are not suggesting that an exit strategy isn’t necessary and building a business with the intention of selling it or moving on is not acceptable, it is clear from the readings in this chapter that in order for a business to be prosperous and worthwhile requires significant amounts of attention to the importance of building sustainability. The authors talk about this in terms of establishing a sustainable imperative. Describe the importance of sustainability today and identify the perils of ignoring this all-importance objective.
