The OB concepts
Select one of the OB concepts given in the chapter and apply it to a situation in your work or school life. How did this concept help with the situation, or if it was not applied, how could it have helped in the outcome?
Whenever there is a new sale or promotion going on, employees are much more likely to put forth extra effort because they know it will be rewarded through commission or other bonuses. For example, during our peak season of holiday shopping there was an increase in sales due to staff members putting forth extra energy and enthusiasm when talking with customers about our products.
If expectancy theory had not been applied in this situation then we would have probably seen less motivation among employees leading to fewer sales overall; however by utilizing it in our workplace we were able to create an environment where everyone felt like their hard work was being appreciated and therefore produced positive results for us all.
