Jesus is the preexisting word of God, who became truly human to save mankind, came to liberate the oppressed and invites them to participate with him. The central task of this paper is to describe the person and work of Jesus Christ. Who is Jesus? What has he done? What is the scope of his work? How does it relate to human beings? For instance, what is necessary for us to receive the benefit of or participate in the work he has accomplished? These are some of the central questions that one might expect papers to touch upon. Students MUST engage EACH of the six theological readings from the course (Barth, Sprague, Sobrino, Reuther, Niebuhr, and Hauerwas), as well as with two academic articles. Submission is to be a coherent, thesis-driven essay, be sure to make arguments that derive support from scripture, tradition, and reason; provide warrants as necessary based upon your audience; and avoid logical fallacies. In addition, the writing should be clear and free of grammatical errors.

Students should be sure to substantiate their claims by appropriately quoting from and citing the sources upon which they are drawing.
