"The Resurrection of America's Slums" by Alana Semuels

Consider the one selection you plan to evaluate in the upcoming Critique
"The Resurrection of America's Slums" by Alana Semuels
II. Then consider the information which could be used in the assessment portion of
your critique.
A. Select four strengths of this selection. Search for writing techniques
used effectively by the author (word choice, organization, thesis
structure, logic, and more).
B. Select four weaknesses of this selection. Search for writing
techniques used ineffectively by the author (logical fallacies, weak
thesis, confusing structure, and more).
C. Give one piece of evidence supporting each strength and weakness.
III. Select a total of three strengths and/or weaknesses of your selected reading and
experiment with the writing of a thesis containing the three. This will be the
thesis for the critique you are preparing to write.
IV. Now determine your response or reaction to the thesis idea being presented in
the reading selection. This is NOT the thesis statement you just wrote for III; this
question is asking you to respond to the writer's thesis idea.
A. Do you agree or disagree with the thesis of the writer? Why?
B. Now rewrite the critique thesis statement started in III. Add your
response to the three points of evaluation already included in that
thesis.
