This field trip should entail a minimum of one entire day (the most successful are over two days, i.e., working day and weekend). I encourage you to travel with at least one other person – classmates or people outside the class. Your choice should be based on the potential of the destination to be of interest to you. As always when traveling, be safe and know your environment.
Planning and research are important. Plan your trip by researching the city and specific building(s) online as well as in the CADC Library. Ascertain the purpose of the place you visit before you embark. Is it a cultural artifact (for whom or what)? Is it a place for commerce (how does it achieve this)? is it a social institution (for whom)? What are its other purposes? What is its historical setting? In summary, your analysis should exhibit how the architecture you observe expresses the who, when, where, what and how of the place.
