In this journal, you will demonstrate an understanding of the chapter on Baroque art. This journal deals with the three primary patrons of Baroque art in Europe: Catholic, Royal, and Protestant Middle Class and the different subjects of art promoted by each.
Select an artwork commissioned by each type of patron: Catholic, Royal and Middle Class.
For each artwork, post a photo
For each artwork answer the following questions:
Who was the likely patron of the work and to which of the three groups does he belong?
Which stylistic characteristics does the work exhibit that is typical for this patron?
Which social, political or religious issues do you see represented in the artwork?
What function was the artwork intended to serve (ie: political propaganda, religious devotion or secular?
Reminder: Make sure your journal contains an introductory sentence about the topic (covering all patrons) and a conclusion. And remember that all assignments are written to the uninformed reader.
