Choose one chapter from Thomas Nagel’s What Does it All Mean? that was assigned this semester (2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10)
Write a 2-3 page paper (750-1,000 words. Anything beyond 1,000 words will not be read and you will be graded only on what came before). Your paper should be a single coherent essay organized around a central thesis (the main claim for which you are arguing).
The paper should contain the following elements:
1. Describe the main philosophical problem presented by Nagel in the chapter you have
selected.
2. Explain the different proposed answers or perspectives on the problem discussed in the
chapter.
3. Evaluate the different arguments presented for and against each position.
4. Given everything discussed above, present and argue for your own position on the
issue. This is your thesis, which should be stated in your first paragraph.
