We’ve seen that sustainability is more than just recycling and controlling energy usage. When we look at the bigger picture of the industry, tourism needs to keep growing and developing in a more sustainable way. As a destination, this includes transportation, crowding, influence on locals and cultural shocks, water conservation, energy, pollution, infrastructure, and more. For this project you will act as a hotel developer interested to invest on an island located in the Caribbean. The island is dealing with the following issues:
Water: Water shortage on the island is a big concern.
Waste Management: Landfill issues, and lack of recycling
Infrastructure congestion: too many buildings and developments are taking away the nature of the island and turning it to another place with clear water.
Community: Locals feel their land is being taken away from foreign investors.
As hoteliers we have to find ways how to deal with these issues. For this paper, you will write a proposal for the development of your resort on this island. This proposal will include how you plan on managing the issues mentioned above. Will you property blend well with nature (infrastructure)? Waste management? What will you do to recycle (food, soaps, etc.)? Type of water system will you have? Will you go above and beyond with energy, community work, etc.?
For full credit the paper will contain a minimum of 300 words. You will attach a link to a supporting article found online of any of the methods and/or systems you will be applying in your property. These may be example of other hotels and what they are doing today in the “green practice”.
