Write a research essay arguing why slavery persisted in this country as long as it did. Be sure and refer to Douglass’ Narrative; it should be clear from reading your essay that you know the selection we had for the class reading. (I want you to be able to recount some of Douglass’ own arguments as he spends time answering this question himself.)
