Description
You will design an educational presentation about a specific “life stage” for an audience of their choosing. Students will choose a life stage from the following list: Infancy, Early Childhood, Middle Childhood, Adolescence, Young Adulthood, Middle Adulthood, Late Adulthood.
Once You have chosen a life stage, you will create a powerpoint presentation of at least 15 slides worth of content (plus 1 title slide and 1 reference slide for a total of at least 17 slides) to educate their audience about several key features of that life stage. You are encouraged to be creative, include graphics, and make the presentation interesting to follow, as you would if you were actually preparing to present this to a live audience.
You should create a research-based presentation based on research gathered from at least 5 (FIVE) peer-reviewed academic sources (PEER REVIEWED of not more than 10 years old NOT ONLINE REVIEW). In other words, this presentation should not be based on your opinion or experience; rather, the presentation should be based on information and research results gathered from REPUTABLE, scientific sources. Website citations do not count toward the 5 required academic sources. The presentation should include the following sections (note: Students are encouraged to use the following headings throughout the presentation. An approximate “slide-count” is provided for additional guidance, but students are free to use their own judgment as well):
(1 slide) Title: Name of the presentation, your name, and any additional content you feel is needed.
(1 slide) Introduction: Include the type of audience you are presenting to (e.g., church, school, adult group, mental health agency) and an explanation of what phase of life you will present on and why it is an important phase for others to learn about. You can feel free to creatively “welcome” your audience on this introduction slide if you would like.
(3-4 slides) Typical Characteristics: Based on developmental research, present on the typical characteristics of the phase of life, specifically providing a thorough discussion of the expected physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional developmental process.
(2-3 slides) Challenges: Based on developmental research, present at least three potential challenges that can disrupt typical development throughout the phase.
(2-3 slides) Protective Factors: Based on developmental research, discuss at least three protective factors that can help keep a person healthy throughout the phase; at least one of the recommendations should be a faith-based option for audience members who would want to utilize faith integration.
(2-3 slides) Advocacy: Explain what everyday people can do to help advocate for this specific phase of life. In other words, how can we as a community/church/family help individuals going through that specific life stage? Suggest any specific action for community/church/family members to take that may help further people’s education about development in this stage and/or provide help or resources.
(1 slide) Conclusion: On one slide, provide a final summary snapshot of your presentation, in order to highlight the key messages related to the typical characteristics, the challenges, the protective factors, and the community advocacy ideas. That is if your audience-member was going to learn one slide’s-worth of information, what should it be?
(1 slide) References: Provide a complete list of APA formatted academic references from your presentation. Also, please remember to include in-text citations on each slide, just as you would an essay-formatted paper. This presentation requires at least 5 peer-reviewed, academic sources.
